Who we are

Tees Valley Salsa is a dance school based at Yarm Fellowship Hall, West Street, Yarm TS15 9BT. We are the data controller for any personal information you share with us.

What information we collect

We only collect information you give us directly. This may include your name and contact details (email, phone, sometimes postcode) if you sign up via our website form, message us, or join our mailing list; information you share when booking a private class, wedding session or event; photos and videos taken during classes and socials; and basic technical information from your visit to our website (such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed) collected automatically by our website host, Wix, for security and analytics.

We do not collect or store payment card details. Class fees are paid in cash on the door, and we do not handle online payments through this site.

How we use your information

We use your information to reply to your enquiries and bookings, send you occasional updates about classes, socials and workshops (only if you've signed up to hear from us), keep a record of who has attended workshops or private events where booking was required, and improve our website. We will never sell your data to anyone, ever.

Mailing list

If you've signed up to our mailing list, we'll only use your email to send you news about classes, socials and workshops. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying to any email or contacting us directly. We'll remove you from the list within seven days.

Photography and video

We sometimes take photos and short video clips during classes and socials, and use them on our website, Facebook page, and social media to promote the school. We will never knowingly publish a photo or video of someone who has asked not to appear. If you'd prefer not to be photographed, please tell us at the start of a class or social — we'll respect that. If you spot a photo of yourself online that you'd like removed, email us at teesvalleysalsa@gmail.com and we'll take it down within seven days.

Cookies

Our website is built on Wix, which uses cookies to make the site work properly (essential cookies) and to gather basic analytics about how people use the site (analytics cookies). You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. We do not run advertising or marketing tracking cookies of our own.

How long we keep your data

We keep contact details for as long as you're an active student or have asked to hear from us. If you haven't been in touch or attended a class for two years, we'll delete your details from our records unless you ask us not to. Booking records for private events may be kept longer for accounting purposes (typically up to six years, in line with HMRC requirements).

Sharing your data

We don't share your personal data with third parties for marketing. We do use a small number of trusted services to run the school, including Wix (our website host), Google (Gmail for our teesvalleysalsa@gmail.com inbox), and Facebook/Meta (for our public page and private group). These providers have their own privacy policies and may transfer data to countries outside the UK — we rely on the safeguards they have in place under UK GDPR. We may share data if legally required to (for example in response to a court order), but this is unlikely to apply to a small dance school.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to ask us what data we hold about you, ask us to correct anything that's wrong, ask us to delete your data, ask us to stop using your data for certain purposes (for example, marketing), and complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you think we've handled your data badly — the ICO's website is ico.org.uk. We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page will always show when the latest version was published.
